Your Vote is Your Voice @ WHS!

Windsor Jr/Sr High School will hold a mock presidential election on Monday, Nov. 5th, 2012. The Student Council added referendum questions and all students in grades 7-12 are being encouraged to vote.  Balloting protocols will be those used in our national elections.

The WHS library turkeys are "dressed" for the mock (as well as real) election!

In late September 2012, Windsor Jr/Sr High held its annual Open House.  Parents of high school students rotated among three curricular groupings while those of junior high students met in one classroom.  The Math & Science division welcomed parents in the library
Mrs. Townsend, math teacher, provided the introduction.
In early October 2012,  TESTING seemed to be the focus of several days for a few grade levels!  Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) and the New England Common Assessment Program (NECAP) were administered in the library for some 8th, 9th and 11th grade students.  At least those students who were testing received a reprieve from any homework during test days!

Good Luck, WHS Class of 2012!

Another school year has come to a close, and I hope that our recent graduates make the best life that they can, fulfill their potential and continue to learn Life's many lessons along the way!

To quote Joseph Campbell, renowned scholar of mythology:
“My general formula for my students is “Follow your bliss.” Find where it is, and don’t be afraid to follow it… doors will open where you would not have thought there would be doors, and where there wouldn’t be a door for anyone else.”

Research and...giving credit where credit is due!

Health class in the Mac Lab after instruction on research databases and citation makers.
WHS students are finding information on French-speaking countries in Africa (French I); various aspects of the Civil Rights Movement (U.S. History) and topics in the area of Complementary & Alternative Medicine (Health).  While the product may be a written paper or a PowerPoint presentation, students are learning the importance and necessity of properly citing their sources, whether images or text.

Honoring Dr. Seuss and Read Across America Day - March 2nd, 2012

The Windsor Middle School Book Jackets Club held their monthly meeting on March 2nd this year to celebrate the birthday of Dr. Seuss (aka Theodore Geisel) as part of Read Across America Day.  All members recited "The Reader's Oath" which was displayed on the SmartBoard in the Library.

Two members submitted winning entries of their favorite quoted text in a DCF nominated book and wrote why they liked it in a complete sentence.

Also, members were shown some clips of "The Lorax" movie based on a book by Dr. Seuss which opens on March 2nd.  Below, one member awaits his turn to play the game "Save the Truffula Forest" on the Scholastic web site for the movie.
